E. Charles (Chuck) Adams retired from the University of Arizona after 35 years directing archaeological research in the middle Little Colorado River focused in particular on ancestral Hopi villages of the Homol’ovi Settlement Cluster near the modern town of Winslow. After receiving his PhD from the University of Colorado, Adams worked at the Museum of Northern Arizona, where he directed excavation and analysis resulting from stabilization of the Hopi First Mesa village, Walpi. From 1983-85, he was the first Director of Research at Crow Canyon. Adams has published more than a dozen books and 100 articles and chapters. His most recent book is co-edited with Barbara Roth and entitled, Agent of Change: the Deposition and Manipulation of Ash in the Past, published by Berghahn earlier this year.
