BIA NAGPRA Assistance Program Coordinator

Amy Gillaspie is an Anthropological Archaeologist, NAGPRA Practitioner, College Instructor, and Museum Professional with archaeological field experience in Peru, Belize, France, Colorado, and North Dakota. Amy began working in NAGPRA during her tenure at Denver Museum of Nature & Science where she assisted with consultations as a Collections Assistant, Archaeological Research Assistant, and Project Archaeologist. She started her new role as the BIA NAGPRA Assistance Program Coordinator in September 2024 in a CESU Agreement between the Bureau of Indian Affairs and her employer, Archaeology Southwest. As the BIA NAGPRA Assistance Program Coordinator, Amy supports the Bureau of Indian Affairs in working with Tribes on all steps of the NAGPRA process, including consultation, repatriation, returns and reburials of Ancestors, belongings, funerary objects, sacred objects, and objects of cultural patrimony.
