Structure 146, subterranean room

CONSTRUCTION

Method and Sequence

A large, round pit was excavated from the prehistoric ground surface into undisturbed native sediment. The pit was lined with coursed masonry. A gap was left in place in the western portion of the room to construct Feature 2, a Pass-through. Another gap was left in place in the eastern portion of the room to construct Feature 3, a Niche. A prepared adobe surface was constructed. A round pit was excavated from Surface 1 into undisturbed native sediment and was constructed into Feature 1, a hearth. The room was most likely plastered. Although no roof support evidence was found, Structure 146 was most likely constructed with supports resting on the top of the structure walls.
