Arbitrary Unit 102, noncultural
About this Nonstructure
General Location
Arbitrary 102 is located in the central portion of the site.
Specific Location
Arbitrary 102 is the post-occupational deposit over Structure 108.
Selection Criteria
Arbitrary 102 was used to define the post-occupational deposits over Structure 108.
Use
Arbitrary 102 is the post-occupational deposit over the kiva at the Dry Ridge site. It is a mix of wind-blown deposits, and plowed sediments. The upper few centimeters of the use-surface upon which the Pueblo II inhabitants lived was plowed up, and mixed into, the post-occupational loess.
Abandonment
Pueblo II artifacts comprise the majority of the artifacts recovered from this deposit, but Arbitrary 102 was still being used as of 2014. It was being used as a wheat field.
Postabandonment Process
Prevailing southwest-westerly winds and plowing activity contributed to its post-occupational accumulations.

Excavation Details for Excavation Units
In order by excavation unit number.
Excavation Unit
12
Location
3-x-2 meter grid unit 889N 2194.25E.
Central portion of the site.
This excavation unit is southeast of Arbitrary 105, and west-northwest of Nonstructure 106.
Selection Criteria
Judgmental. This excavation unit was used to investigate the nature of an electrical resistivity anomaly.
Excavation Strategy
Strata subdivided into arbitrary levels. Natural strata were subdivided into 20 cm arbitrary levels. Once the elevation of the floor was determined, excavation terminated 5 cm above the floor, regardless of whether 25 cm in depth had been attained.
Unit Ends at
Structure floor. Excavation terminated at approximately 81.40 meters below datum. The floor of Structure 108, in this excavation unit, had likely eroded away revealing the underlying natural, undisturbed, calicium carbonate deposit.

Location
Segment 1 N E.
(Segment 1 is 10.5 meters long, 70 centimeters wide.)
Segment 1 is located in the central portion of the site.
This excavation unit is southeast of Arbitrary 105, and west-northwest of Nonstructure 106.
Selection Criteria
Judgmental. Segment 1 was used to investigate the nature of an electrical resistivity anomaly.
Excavation Strategy
Other. Overburden was removed using a backhoe, until rock was encountered and it became clear we were in a structure. At this point, natural strata were subdivided into 25 centimeter arbitrary levels.
Unit Ends at
Structure floor. Excavation terminated at approximately 81.70 meters below datum. The floor in this excavation unit likely eroded away, revealing the underlying, natural, undisturbed, calcium carbonate deposit.
