Nonstructure 11-N, noncultural
About this Nonstructure
General Location
East side of drainage; located in flat area at the base of a talus slope.
Specific Location
Upslope and to the northeast of a tested kiva (Structure 5). Defined by a visible depression at modern ground surface that was bounded by a stone retaining wall to the south.
Selection Criteria
Initially part of kiva testing program; this area was thought to contain a kiva and was one of three possible kiva depressions in Sampling Stratum 2 that was selected for testing by random means. Results of testing indicated that a kiva was not present. Instead, two cultural deposits, including secondary refuse, were identified and assigned unique study unit numbers (Nonstructures 11.1-N - 11.2-N). Noncultural deposits were grouped with this study unit (Nonstructure 11-N).

Location
Segment 1 N E.
(2-x-1-m)
East side of drainage; located in a flat area at the base of a talus slope; upslope and to the northeast of a tested kiva, Structure 5.
Located in the northwest quarter of a depression that was originally believed to be a kiva depression.
Selection Criteria
Judgmental. Initially part of kiva testing program; unit was selected to test a possible kiva in Sampling Stratum 2 (see kiva sampling map for location of sampling stratum).
Excavation Strategy
Strata subdivided into arbitrary levels.
Unit Ends at
Bedrock.

Location
Segment 2 N E.
(2-x-1-m)
East side of drainage; located in a flat area at the base of a talus slope; upslope and to the northeast of a tested kiva, Structure 5.
Located within a depression that was originally believed to be a kiva depression; southeast of and adjacent to Nonstructure 10, Segment 1.
Selection Criteria
Judgmental. Extension of Nonstructure 11, Segment 1; since Segment 1 failed to provide evidence for a kiva, this unit was opened to definitely prove that a kiva was not present in this area.
Excavation Strategy
Strata subdivided into arbitrary levels.
Unit Ends at
Bedrock.
