Nonstructure 5-N, noncultural
About this Nonstructure
General Location
Lower west side; base of talus slope near canyon bottom.
Specific Location
East-southeast of Nonstructure 1-N; located amongst a core architectural area that includes Structures 2 and 3 (tested kivas).
Selection Criteria
Part of midden testing program. Nonstructure 5 is an area spatially associated with a large cluster of buildings, including Structures 2 and 3. This nonstructure was defined as the nonarchitectural area surrounding a dense cluster of buildings. This study unit is discontinuous in places because structures are present. Four 1-x-1-m excavation units were selected using a random numbers program. A total of ten cultural deposits, including secondary refuse deposits, constructional deposits, and an extramural surface with an associated pit, were exposed. Each cultural deposit was assigned a unique study unit number (Nonstructures 5.1-N - 5.10-N). All noncultural deposits are grouped with this study unit (Nonstructure 5-N).
