Nonstructure 109, extramural surface
About this Nonstructure
General Location
Nonstructure 109 is located in the southwest portion of the site.
Specific Location
Nonstructure 109 underlies Nonstructure 108, and is southwest of Structure 111.
Selection Criteria
Nonstructure 109 is used to investigate a possible feature.
Use
Nonstructure 109 is an extramural use-surface, made of redeposited native sediment, and into which Feature-1 was dug.
Abandonment
Nonstructure 109 was no longer used after the Pueblo II period. This interpretation is based on the presence of Mancos Black-on-White pottery.
Postabandonment Process
Based on the pottery, Nonstructure 109 was constructed during the Pueblo II period. However, it is located directly adjacent to a two-track road, and likely was impacted by the road's construction. Natural forces (wind and water), and modern mechanical disturbance, contributed to Nonstructure 109's postabondonment condition.
Dating of Construction
Based on the pottery found in this context, Nonstructure 109 dates from the Pueblo II period.
Dating of Remodeling
Indeterminate. Nonstructure 109 is redeposited sediment, so it may have been remodeled. But the artifacts speak to it dating from the Pueblo II period, and any earlier evidence of Nonstructure 109 being remodeled prior to Pueblo II is gone.
Dating of Abandonment
Based on the pottery found in this context, Nonstructure 109 dates from the Pueblo II period.
