Nonstructure 1.13-N, extramural surface

About this Nonstructure

Has Surface
No Masonry

General Location

Lower west side; base of talus slope near canyon bottom.

Specific Location

Lower half of Segment 6; rests below Nonstructures 1.11-N and 1.12-N and above Nonstructures 1.14-N and 1.15-N.

Selection Criteria

Part of Nonstructure 1-N testing; see Nonstructure 1-N and associated EU for description and explanation of testing strategy.

Use

Ephermal outdoor use surface.

Abandonment

Artifacts were left on the surface and surface was later covered by cultural fill.

Postabandonment Process

Not applicable.

Dating of Construction

Pottery resting on the surface dates from A.D. 900 to 1300. The presence of a Mesa Verde Corrugated sherd suggests the surface was used between A.D. 1100 and 1300. The stratigraphic position indicates that this surface postdates a secondary refuse deposit (Nonstructure 1.14-N) and a cultural deposit (Nonstructure 1.15-N) and predates another extramural surface (Nonstructure 1.12-N) and another cultural deposit (Nonstructure 1.11-N).

Dating of Remodeling

Not applicable.

Dating of Abandonment

Surface was abandoned before canyon bottom was abandoned, as multiple cultural deposits rest abovethis surfacet.

Dating of Midden

Not applicable.

Dating of Reuse

No evidence of reuse.
