Nonstructure 1.19-N, extramural surface
About this Nonstructure
General Location
Lower west side; base of talus slope near canyon bottom.
Specific Location
Near limits of excavation in Segment 8 (EU 39); below Nonstructures 1.16-N, 1.17-N and 1.18-N.
Selection Criteria
Part of Nonstructure 1-N testing; see Nonstructure 1-N and associated EU for description and explanation of testing strategy.
Use
Outdoor surface associated with the construction of a wall (Feature 12).
Abandonment
Covered with secondary refuse.
Postabandonment Process
Not applicable.
Dating of Construction
Types of pottery sherds recovered from the sediment underlying the surface suggests surface dates from Pueblo III times. The surface rests below two midden deposits (Nonstructures 1.17-N and 1.18-N), and another extramural surface (Nonstructure 1.16-N), and consequently predates these cultural deposits.
Dating of Remodeling
No evidence of remodeling.
Dating of Abandonment
Abandoned earlier than the abandonment of the canyon bottom, because the surface was covered by later cultural deposits.
Dating of Midden
Not applicable.
Dating of Reuse
No evidence of reuse.
