General Location
Lower west side; base of talus slope near canyon bottom.
Specific Location
Lower half of Segment 9 (EU 40); below Nonstructure 1.20-N and above Nonstructure 1.22-N.

Part of Nonstructure 1-N testing; see Nonstructure 1-N and associated EU for description and explanation of testing strategy.
Use
Ground surface associated with the construction and use of a pit (Feature 4).
Abandonment
Covered by fill that contains redeposited secondary refuse.

Dating of Construction
Pottery recovered from the sediment underlying the surface dates from A.D. 900 to 1300. The stratigraphic position suggests that this surface was used later than one extramural surface (Nonstructure 1.22-N) but earlier than another extramural surface (Nonstructure 1.20-N).

Not applicable.

Surface abandoned before the canyon bottom was abandoned (another extramural surface postdates this surface).
