General Location
Lower west side; base of talus slope near canyon bottom.
Specific Location
Upper half of Segment 5 (EU 36); rests below Nonstructure 1.1-N and above Nonstructures 1.9-N and 1.10-N.
Selection Criteria
Part of Nonstructure 1-N testing; see Nonstructure 1-N and associated EU for description and explanation of testing strategy.
Use
Ephermal surface in fill that is associated with the construction of an extramural wall (Feature 3).
Abandonment
Probably abandoned as part of the abandonment of the canyon bottom.
Postabandonment Process
Surface covered by natural deposits that contain redeposited cultural refuse.
Dating of Construction
No tree-ring dates or artifacts. Based on stratigraphic position, the surface was used late in the occupation of this area--it postdates a secondary refuse deposit (Nonstructure 1.9-N) and an earlier extramural surface (Nonstructure 1.10-N).
Dating of Remodeling
Not applicable.
Dating of Abandonment
Probably abandoned at the same time as the canyon bottom (it is one of the latest surfaces in this area).
