Nonstructure 2.6-N, extramural surface

About this Nonstructure

General Location

Northeast quadrant of site. Within rim complex on canyon rim.

Specific Location

East end of rim complex, adjacent to enclosing wall.

Selection Criteria

Part of Nonstructure 2-N testing; see Nonstructure 2-N and associated EU for description and explanation of testing strategy.

Use

Outdoor use surface associated with the construction of two walls (Feature 5, Feature 8); presence of artifacts on surface indicates it was used and may have been part of a plaza surface.

Abandonment

A few artifacts were left on the surface; surface was probably abandoned as part of the rim complex abandonment.

Postabandonment Process

Surface covered with postoccupational wall fall and eolian deposits.

Dating of Construction

Surface was used sometime between A.D. 900 and 1300, based on the pottery resting on and just below the surface.

Dating of Remodeling

No evidence of remodeling.

Dating of Abandonment

Probably abandoned when the rim complex was abandoned, as there are no cultural deposits resting above this surface.

Dating of Midden

Not applicable.

Dating of Reuse

No evidence of reuse.
