About this Nonstructure
General Location
Lower west side; base of talus slope near canyon bottom. Immediately south of Nonstructure 1-N and southwest of Structure 1 ( a tested kiva).
Specific Location
Lower fill of Segment 1 (EU 51); rests below Nonstructure 4.3-N and on top of Nonstructure 4.2-N.
Selection Criteria
Part of Nonstructure 4-N testing; see Nonstructure 4-N and associated EU for description and explanation of testing strategy.
Use
Prehistoric ground surface associated with the construction of an extramural wall (Feature 3).
Abandonment
Covered by secondary refuse.

No pottery or tree-ring data. Based on stratigraphic position, this surface postdates a cultural deposit Nonstructure 4.2-N) and predates a secondary refuse deposit (Nonstructure 4.3-N).

North part of Nonstructure 4; roughly 2 m south of the masonry wall that defines the south boundary of the Structure 1 kiva and associated courtyard.
Selection Criteria
Judgmental. This unit was placed upslope of all the random units in Nonstructure 4 to look for thicker secondary refuse deposits.

Strata subdivided into arbitrary levels.
