General Location

Central portion of site.

Specific Location

East-central portion of Block 100; north end of Backhoe Trench 116.

Selection Criteria

Exposed in Backhoe Trench 116; portion of fill excavated with Segment 9, designed to sample fill and expose floor of Structure 141.

Use

Nonstructure 156 is an extramural surface from which a pit feature (Feature 1) was excavated. The purpose of the pit is unknown.

Abandonment

Nonstructure 156 was abandoned in the Pueblo II period.

Postabandonment Process

Natural sediments accumulated above the surface and the pit after they fell out of use.

Dating of Construction

This surface, and the feature that was excavated from it, truncated Structure 141. Structure 141 was constructed in the Pueblo I period. Based on pottery data, Structure 141 was abandoned in the Pueblo II period. Therefore, Nonstructure 156 was probably used during the Pueblo II period. Also, Nonstructure 156 is below Nonstructure 155, which dates from the Pueblo II period.
