Southwest part of the site.

Associated with berm at the west edge of a large depression (possible reservoir).

Selection Criteria

To determine if this linear mound (berm) was constructed or natural.

Use

This was the natural ground surface at the time the berm at the west edge of the reservoir (Feature 1, wall:other) was constructed.

Abandonment

Surface was abandoned when occupation of this area of the village ended.

Postabandonment Process

Surface was covered with alluvial/aeolian sediments.

Dating of Construction

This surface was not constructed, it was the top of a naturally deposited stratum. Surface cannot be dated directly--no pottery was found associated with it.

Dating of Abandonment

Mesa Verde Black-on-white pottery above the surface indicates that use of the surface probably ended sometime after A.D. 1180.
