General Location
Southwest part of the site.
Specific Location
In a large natural depression (possible reservoir) east of berm.
Selection Criteria
To determine if this natural depression was used as a reservoir during the occupation of the village.
Use
Use of this surface is thought to have been associated with water procurement.
Abandonment
Surface might have been abandoned as a result of absence of water in the (possible) reservoir.
Postabandonment Process
Cultural materials that had been deposited on the surface were covered by naturally deposited sediments.
Dating of Construction
Late Pueblo II and Pueblo III (A.D. 1050-1300) pottery types were found on and just above this surface. The presence of Mesa Verde Black-on-white sherds in this 15-cm-thick stratum of occupational refuse indicates that this stratum accumulated sometime after A.D. 1180.
Dating of Abandonment
This bedrock surface was covered by refuse sometime after A.D. 1180, either during or after use of the possible reservoir.
