Nonstructure 2201, extramural surface
About this Nonstructure
General Location
Central part of the site.
Specific Location
Just north of the roomblock in Architectural Block 2200.
Selection Criteria
Surface was encountered during excavations to expose a segment of the north wall of the adjacent roomblock.
Use
Outdoor use surface associated with the occupation of Architectural Block 2200.
Abandonment
Abandoned when occupation of this architectural block ended.
Postabandonment Process
Covered with wall fall, aeolian, and alluvial sediments.
Dating of Construction
Pecked-block and double-stone-wide masonry style of the structure wall that rests on this surface suggests that the surface and wall date from sometime in the Pueblo III period (A.D. 1150-1300).
Dating of Abandonment
Few data--no sherds were found on this surface, and only a few were found in the shallow occupational and postoccupational sediment above the surface. The latest pottery type in these strata was Pueblo III White Painted, and indicates that this material was deposited after A.D. 1100.
