Nonstructure 2403, extramural surface

About this Nonstructure

Has Surface
No Masonry

General Location

Southwest part of the site.

Specific Location

Just north of the roomblock in Architectural Block 2400.

Selection Criteria

Surface was encountered during excavations to expose a segment of the north wall of the adjacent roomblock.

Use

Outdoor use surface associated with the occupation of Architectural Block 2400.

Abandonment

Abandoned when occupation of this area ended.

Postabandonment Process

Covered with cultural deposits from occupation, burned construction material (either secondary refuse or naturally deposited from adjacent burned structure), wall fall, and aeolian/alluvial deposits.

Dating of Construction

Surface was not constructed, but is thought to have been used as a surface on which to build the adjacent roomblock during the Pueblo III period (A.D. 1150-1300). This inference is based on the pecked-block and double-stone-wide masonry styles of the exposed roomblock wall.

Dating of Abandonment

Thought to have been abandoned sometime after A.D. 1100; this inference is based on the presence of Pueblo III White Painted pottery on this surface.

Date Range
