Nonstructure 2507, extramural surface

About this Nonstructure

Has Surface
No Masonry

General Location

Southwest part of the site.

Specific Location

At the north edge of the roomblock in Architectural Block 2500.

Selection Criteria

Surface was encountered during excavations to expose a segment of the north wall of the adjacent roomblock.

Use

Outdoor use surface associated with construction and occupation of Architectural Block 2500.

Abandonment

Abandoned when occupation of this area ended.

Postabandonment Process

Surface was covered by cultural materials associated with occupation of roomblock, alluvial deposits, then wall fall and aeolian/alluvial sediments.

Dating of Construction

This surface was not constructed, but was prehistoric ground surface when the adjacent roomblock was constructed. The pecked-block masonry style of the north wall of that structure indicates construction during the Pueblo III period (A.D. 1150-1300).

Dating of Abandonment

The presence of Pueblo III White Painted pottery on this surface indicates that the surface was abandoned sometime after A.D. 1100, and association with the adjacent roomblock indicates the surface was abandoned during the Pueblo III period (1150-1300).
