South part of the site.
Specific Location
At the north edge of the roomblock in Architectural Block 2600.
Selection Criteria
Surface was encountered during excavation to expose the north wall of the adjacent roomblock.
Use
Outdoor use surface associated with construction and occupation of Architectural Block 2600 and with Feature 1 (curved wall).
Abandonment
Abandoned when occupation of this area ended.
Postabandonment Process
Covered with naturally deposited sediment and wall fall.
Dating of Construction
This surface is associated with the adjacent roomblock--the pecked-block and double-stone-with-core masonry styles of the roomblock wall indicate construction during the Pueblo III period (A.D. 1150-1300).
Dating of Abandonment
Late Pueblo II and Pueblo III sherds are associated with this surface; the presence of Mesa Verde Black-on-white pottery indicates that the surface was abandoned after A.D. 1180.
