Nonstructure 2606, extramural surface

About this Nonstructure

Has Surface
No Masonry

General Location

South part of the site.

Specific Location

At the north edge of the roomblock in Architectural Block 2600.

Selection Criteria

This surface was encountered during excavations to expose the north wall of the adjacent roomblock.

Use

Outdoor use surface into which two pit features were dug and on which Structure 2607 was constructed; might predate roomblock.

Abandonment

Surface was abandoned when Nonsructure 2605 surface was constructed.

Postabandonment Process

Surfaces above this surface were used, possibly in association with the adjacent roomblock.

Dating of Construction

Structure 2607 was constructed on this surface. Double-stone-wide, blocky masonry suggests very late Pueblo II (A.D. 1100-1150) or Pueblo III (A.D. 1150-1300) construction of that structure.

Dating of Abandonment

Presence of Pueblo III White Painted pottery on this surface indicates that it was abandoned sometime after A.D. 1100.

Dating of Reuse

Surface Nonstructure 2605 is about 5 cm above this surface and might be considered reuse of the area if not the surface of Nonstructure 2606 itself; this reuse occurred after A.D. 1150.

Date Range

2 (A.D. 1100–1225)
