South part of the site.

Specific Location

South of the roomblock in Architectural Block 300.

Selection Criteria

This surface was encountered during excavations to test the midden associated with this architectural block.

Use

Ground surface associated with a burial pit. It was not possible to discern whether this was a prehistoric ground surface or a surface that was created by recent looting activity that disturbed the burial.

Abandonment

Use of surface ended when refuse was deposited on top of it.

Postabandonment Process

Recently disturbed by looting activities.

Dating of Construction

No means by which to date the use of this surface.

Dating of Abandonment

Mesa Verde Black-on-white sherds in the fill above the surface were deposited sometime after A.D. 1180.
