General Location

Central part of the site.

Specific Location

Just north of the roomblock in Architectural Block 600.

Selection Criteria

Surface was encountered during excavations to expose the outside face of the north wall of the roomblock.

Outdoor use surface associated with the construction and occupation of the roomblock in Architectural Block 600

Abandonment

Abandoned when the occupation of this area ended

Postabandonment Process

Covered with cultural deposits from roomblock occupation, then with wall fall, aeolian, and alluvial sediments

Dating of Construction

This surface was not constructed, but was used sometime after A.D. 1150; this inference is based on the Pueblo III construction style of the roomblock wall that rests on the surface. Mesa Verde Corrugated and Pueblo III White Painted pottery sherds are beneath this surface.

Dating of Abandonment

This surface was abandoned sometime after A.D. 1150; this inference is based on the construction of Pueblo III style masonry on top of the surface. Mesa Verde Corrugated sherds and Pueblo III white painted sherds are beneath this surface.

Judgmental. Extension of 2 x 1 m unit (EU 75) to the south to try to expose the Architectural Block 600 masonry wall.
