General description
Slab-lined pit on the extramural surface outside of the roomblock.
Use history
Feature 1 is an extramural slab-lined thermal feature on the west side of the central rooms in the roomblock north of Pithouse 101-103. The feature may be contemporary with Surface Room Structure 110 1.5 m to the east but post-dates Surface Room Structure 116 as it was partially dug into the structures fill.

Excavation procedure
The east half of Feature 1 ws excavated in a full cut. Sediment was screened through an 1/8" mesh. Two floatation and two pollen samples were collected from the base of the feature.

Horizontal location
Feature 1 is located adjacent to the rooblock north of Pithouse 101-103.
Vertical location
The feature is excavated into the extramural ground surface and fill of Structure 116.

A pit was excavated into an extramural surface and then the bottom and sides lined with sandstone slabs.

Thermal alteration
Yes. The interrior face of all sandstone is fire-reddened.

Yes. Some of the sandstone slabs were pulled and put into the pit at the end of its use.
