Nonstructure 4.6-N, extramural surface

Features

Wall: other (Feature 1) Top of page
General description
One-course high stone alignment.
Use history
Expediently-built wall that may have helped to control erosion; it was constructed after a lot of secondary refuse deposits had accumulated in this area; this wall was intially interpreted as a retaining/enclosing wall for the Structure 1 kiva unit but this does not seem feasible since the wall postadates deposits that were discarded from the Structure 1 kiva unit.
Associated features
Wall segment in Nonstructure 1, Segment 8 (F-10 ), which is thought to be a part of the same wall.
Excavation procedure
Wall was exposed during excavation of Nonstructure 4, Segment 2; after wall was documented, wall stones were removed so that excavation could continue.
Portion excavated
Portion within Nonstructure 4, Segment 2.
Horizontal location
Wall runs grid southwest-northeast through northwest corner of Nonstructure 4, Segment 2.
Vertical location
Base of wall rests on Surface 2, which is in fill that contains secondary refuse (Nonstructure 4.1-N, Stratum 1 Level 1in PD record, Stratum A on Map 218).
Construction
Seven stones were laid flat on secondary refuse in a rough alignment; stones are medium to large, rectangular to irregular, and unshaped.
