Human remains occurrence , HRO 4 (Feature 2) (NOTE: Additional information on human remains is archived at the Anasazi Heritage Center, Dolores, Colorado.) Top of page
General description
A partial mandible fragment and several small bone fragments.
Use history
Not applicable.
Associated features
Inferred burial pit (Nonstructure 235, Feature 1).
Excavation procedure
Human Remains Occurrence 4 was disturbed by the excavation of Backhoe Trench 227. Remains were encountered within plow zone deposits within Structure 234 and appeared to be disturbed by agricultural activities prior to the excavation of the trench.
Portion excavated
A partial mandible and other small bone fragments were disturbed by plowing activities and then by the excavation of Backoe Trench 235. Several large sherds in the nearby area suggests this was a formailzed burial prior to the disturbance.
Horizontal location
Approximately 501.8N 544.6E
Vertical location
Approximately 97.74-97.38 meters.
Construction
Unknown due to disturbance, but remains were most likely placed within a formal burial pit (Nonstructure 235, Feature 1) and covered over with sediment.
