General Location
Nonstructure 106 is located in the southeast portion of the site.
Specific Location
Nonstructure 106 is southeast of Structure 108.
Selection Criteria
Nonstructure 106 defines the randomly-tested midden deposits at the Dry Ridge site.
Use
Nonstructure 106 is a mix of midden and plowed sediments. Evidence that these deposits were plowed, include its location in a plowed wheat field.
Abandonment
Nonstructure 106 was in use during the Pueblo II period. No artifacts from subsequent periods were observed.
Postabandonment Process
Wind/water borne sediments were mixed by modern plowing activity. This area was being regularly plowed until the fall of 2014.
Dating of Midden
Based on the pottery, the midden most likely dates from the Pueblo II period. However, a large proportion of indeterminate local gray sherds were recovered, and this type was made from Basketmaker III-Pueblo I, while over 1000 sherds of indeterminate local corrugated sherds, manufactured during Pueblo II-Pueblo III, were recovered as well. Structure 108, the kiva associated with this site, dates from Pueblo II, so these earlier and later sherds may be indicative of sherds being dragged over by plowing from nearby sites.
