Nonstructure 106, midden
About this Nonstructure
General Location
Nonstructure 106 is located in the southeast portion of the site.
Specific Location
Nonstructure 106 is southeast of Nonstructure 102 and Structure 111.
Selection Criteria
Nonstructure 106 is used to define the midden deposit.
Use
Nonstructure 106 is a brown silty clay, with adobe, calcium carbonate, charcoal, and sandstone inclusions. It is the midden deposit at this site. It was heavily disturbed by bulldozing and plowing activities.
Abandonment
Based on the pottery, the midden was not in use subsequent to the Pueblo II period.
Postabandonment Process
Natural forces (wind and water), as well as plowing and bulldozing activities contributed to the postabandonment processes.
Dating of Midden
Based on the pottery, Nonstructure 106 dates from the Pueblo II period. But again, several earlier and later wares were recovered as well. Because the only structure associated with this site, Structure 111, likely dates from Pueblo II, the midden likely dates from Pueblo II, too, and the earlier and later wares were dragged there from nearby sites due to bulldozing and plowing activities.
