General Location
Lower west side; base of talus slope near canyon bottom.
Specific Location
Lower fill of Segment 6 (EU 37); below Nonstructures 1.11-N, 1.12-N, and 1.13-N and above Nonstructure 1.15-N.
Selection Criteria
Part of Nonstructure 1-N testing; see Nonstructure 1-N and associated EU for description and explanation of testing strategy.
Use
Thin midden deposit that may have originated from the structures immediately north of this study unit; interpretation based on close proximity of the structures to this study unit.
Abandonment
Top of deposit used as a surface.
Postabandonment Process
Not applicable.
Dating of Midden
No tree-ring or pottery data. The top of this deposit was used as a surface (Nonstructure 1.13-N) and the surface dates between A.D. 900 and 1300 as does the cultural deposit (Nonstructure 1.15-N) below this study unit. The stratigraphic position of this stratum relative to these other deposits indicates this refuse was also deposited between A.D. 900 and 1300; also predates a cultural deposit (Nonstructure 1.11-N) and an extramural surface (Nonstructure 1.12-N).

Judgmental. Selected to identify if open, flat area, known as Nonstructure 1, was a plaza or great kiva; placed adjacent to and south of a stone alignment that forms the north boundary of Nonstructure 1.
