Nonstructure 1.4-N, midden
About this Nonstructure
General Location
Lower west side; base of talus slope near canyon bottom.
Specific Location
South of Structure 9 (a kiva). Lower fill of Segment 1 (EU 32), above Nonstructure 1.5-N and below Nonstructures 1.1-N, 1.2-N and 1.3-N.
Selection Criteria
Part of Nonstructure 1-N testing; see Nonstructure 1-N and associated EU for description and explanation of testing strategy.
Use
Disposal of refuse that probably came from Structure 9, a kiva, immediatley to the north; this interpretation is based upon the close proximity of Structure 9 to this study unit.
Abandonment
Covered with constructional fill.
Postabandonment Process
Not applicable.
Dating of Midden
Based on pottery data, this refuse was discarded during Pueblo III times. Based on stratigraphic position, this refuse was discarded after an extramural wall was built (Nonstructure 1.5-N), but before constructional fill (Nonstructure 1.3-N) was deposited and another extramural surface (Nonstructure 1.2-N, Surface 3) was constructed.
