Nonstructure 6.5-N, midden

About this Nonstructure

No Surface
No Masonry

General Location

East of main drainage on a steep talus slope; southwest of a tested kiva (Structure 5).

Specific Location

Segment 1 (EU 46); above Nonstructures 6.2-N, 6.6-N, and 6.7-N.

Selection Criteria

Part of Nonstructure 6-N testing; see Nonstructure 6-N and associated EU for description and explanation of testing strategy.

Use

This refuse probably originated from the kiva unit (includes Structure 5) immediately north of and upslope from this study unit.

Abandonment

Not applicable.

Postabandonment Process

Covered by postoccupaitonal colluvial and eolian deposits.

Dating of Midden

Pottery data indicate this refuse was deposited between A.D. 900 and 1300. Because this refuse is believed to have originated from a nearby kiva (Structure 5) that was built after A.D. 1143, it is likely that this refuse accumulated during Pueblo III times. Based on stratigraphic position, this refuse postdates another secondary refuse deposit (Nonstructure 6.6-N), a construction deposit (Nonstructure 6.7-N), and a possible cultural deposit (Nonstructure 6.2-N).

Date Range
