Nonstructure 133, midden
About this Nonstructure
General Location
West-central portion of site.
Specific Location
West-central portion of Architectural Block 100; below Arbitrary Unit 124; 502.1N 489.5E.
Selection Criteria
1-x-2-m unit judgmentally placed to expose masonry on the north wall of the great house.
Use
Nonstructure 133 was most likely deposited in the Early Pueblo III period. This inference is based on pottery found within the fill which was 4:5:1 Mancos Black-on-white to McElmo Black-on-white to Mesa Verde Black-on-white. The north exterior wall of the great house was constructed on an extramural surface (Nonstructure 9020) directly above Nonstructure 133 deposits. The great house was most likely constructed at approximately A.D. 1100. It is unclear if Nonstructure 133 refuse was deposited intentionally for the construction of the north exterior wall of the great house or if the refuse accumulated south of residential architecture.
Abandonment
Nonstructure 133 was no longer deposited in the Early Pueblo III period, when Nonstructure 9020, an extramural surface, was used.
Postabandonment Process
Nonstructure 9020 was constructed on Nonstructure 133.
Dating of Midden
Nonstructure 133 refuse was deposited in the Early Pueblo III period.
