Nonstructure 134, midden
About this Nonstructure
General Location
Central portion of site.
Specific Location
North-central portion of Architectural Block 100; 504N 500.4E.
Selection Criteria
1-x-2-m unit judgmentally placed to expose the north wall of the great house.
Use
Nonstructure 134 was most likely deposited in the Early Pueblo III period. This inference is based on pottery found within the fill which was 2:5:1 Mancos Black-on-white to McElmo Black-on-white to Mesa Verde Black-on-white. The north exterior wall of the great house was constructed on an extramural surface (Nonstructure 135) directly above Nonstructure 134 deposits. The great house was most likely constructed at approximately A.D. 1100. It is unclear if Nonstructure 134 refuse was deposited intentionally for the construction of the north exterior wall of the great house or if the refuse accumulated south of residential architecture.
Abandonment
Nonstructure 134 refuse was no longer deposited in the Early Pueblo III period. The north exterior wall of the great house was constructed on an extramural surface (Nonstructure 135) above this deposit.
Postabandonment Process
The north exterior wall of the great house was constructed on an extramural surface (Nonstructure 135) above Nonstructure 134 deposits.
Dating of Midden
