Nonstructure 199, midden
About this Nonstructure
General Location
West-central portion of site.
Specific Location
Central portion of Architectural Block 100; below Structure 128, Surface 1.
Selection Criteria
1-x-2-m unit judgmentally placed to test Structure 128, a masonry surface room.
Use
Nonstructure 199 may be a construction fill laid down to create a platform for the construction of Structure 128. The deposits are dominated by Mancos Black-on-white. There are no McElmo or Mesa Verde Black-on-white sherds within the fill, however there are a few Pueblo III white painted sherds. It's possible that the Pueblo III sherds are intrusive to the Pueblo II deposit.
Abandonment
Nonstructure 199 refuse was no longer deposited in the Early Pueblo III period when Structure 128 was constructed above the refuse.
Postabandonment Process
Structure 128 was deposited above Nonstructure 199 deposits.
Dating of Midden
Nonstructure 199 was most likely deposited in the Late Pueblo II or Early Pueblo III periods.
