Nonstructure 1217, extramural surface

About this Nonstructure

Has Surface
No Masonry

General Location

In the great tower complex.

Specific Location

6 m southwest of the great tower bi-wall structure.

Selection Criteria

Surface was encountered during testing to further define an extramural wall along the west edge of the great tower complex.

Use

Outdoor use surfaces associated with the occupation of the roomblock. The constructed surface served to level the area, and perhaps to enable the occupants to create pits such as Feature 1 (hearth). This same area was later enclosed by a masonry wall (Nonstructure 1216, Feature 1).

Abandonment

This use of this area might have ended when refuse began to accumulate here, or use might have continued relatively unchanged until the entire architectural block was abandoned.

Postabandonment Process

These buried surfaces were unaffected by postabandonment processes.
