Dating of Midden

This 20-to-30-cm thick midden contains both late Pueblo II and Pueblo III pottery. However, all deposition is thought to have occurred after A.D. 1100, because the lowermost deposits contain Pueblo III White Painted sherds. The upper deposits contain Mesa Verde Black-on-white sherds, which indicates that refuse was deposited here sometime after A.D. 1180. No hiatus in deposition was noted, so it is thought that deposition was continuous.
