To sample midden in this architectural block.

Use

This area was used for the deposition of refuse, probably by the inhabitants of the nearby roomblock.

Abandonment

Abandoned when occupation of this area was discontinued.

Postabandonment Process

Midden recently mixed by looting activity.

Dating of Midden

This 30-40 cm of refuse contained late Pueblo II and Pueblo III sherds. Pueblo III White Painted pottery is present in the lowermost, undisturbed portion of this midden, indicating that refuse began to be deposited sometime after A.D. 1100 at the earliest. The presence of Mesa Verde Black-on-white indicates that refuse was deposited until sometime after A.D. 1180.
