Nonstructure 307, midden
About this Nonstructure
General Location
South part of the site.
Specific Location
Just north of the north wall of the roomblock in Architectural Block 300.
Selection Criteria
Encountered during excavations to expose the outside face of the north wall of each roomblock.
Use
This area was used for the deposition of refuse prior to the construction of the adjacent roomblock (and Structure 305).
Abandonment
This area continued to be used for the deposition of refuse after the roomblock was constructed (but the provenience of that material is Nonstructure 306).
Postabandonment Process
Additional refuse accumulated above the surface associated with the roomblock.
Dating of Midden
This 70-cm-thick deposit of refuse contained Pueblo II and Pueblo III sherds. The presence of Mesa Verde Black-on-white pottery in the lowermost stratum of this refuse indicates that most, if not all, of these artifacts were deposited sometime after A.D. 1180.
