About this Nonstructure
General Location
Central part of the site.
Specific Location
South of the roomblock in Architectural Block 500.
Selection Criteria
To sample midden associated with this architectural block.
Use
This area was used for the deposition of refuse, probably by the residents of the nearby roomblock.
Abandonment
Abandoned when occupation of this area ended.
Postabandonment Process
Upper stratum consists of deposits mixed by recent looting activities.
Dating of Midden
This 1.20-m-thick midden contained some Pueblo I pottery and abundant Pueblo II and Pueblo III pottery. However, the presence of Mesa Verde Black-on-white sherds in the lowermost (and undisturbed) stratum leads to the inference that much or all of this refuse was deposited sometime after A.D. 1180.
