This area was used for the deposition of refuse, probably by the residents of the nearby roomblock.

Abandoned when occupation of this area ended.

Postabandonment Process

All but the lowermost 7 cm of refuse was mixed by recent looting activities.

Dating of Midden

This 55-cm-thick midden contains both Pueblo II and Pueblo III pottery. Pueblo III White Painted sherds are present in the lowermost (and undisturbed) 7 cm of refuse. This indicates that the earliest deposits occurred sometime after A.D. 1100. The remainder of the refuse has been churned by recent looting, but contains Mesa Verde Black-on-white pottery. Thus, at least some (and perhaps all) of this refuse was deposited after A.D. 1180.
