Selection Criteria

Use

Used for the disposal of domestic refuse; midden contains many and varied artifacts, indicating that it is refuse from permanent habitation. The partial remains of a small child (1.5-2 years old) were found in a disturbed portion of this midden.

Abandonment

Abandoned as a result of abandonment of the kiva suite.

Postabandonment Process

Sediment and collapsed wall material was deposited naturally on top of the midden.

Dating of Midden

The lowermost stratum of refuse is below the base of the wall that encloses Structure 102 (kiva), and so was deposited before that wall was built. The other strata of refuse were deposited after Structure 102 was built (after A.D. 1274).
