Selection Criteria

Use

This midden contained a very large quantity and variety of artifacts that one would expect to find in domestic refuse. In addition, a human interment (Human Remains Occurrence 5) was contained in the upper layer of deposits. It is not clear whether the refuse and body were deposited by the residents of Kiva Suite 1206 or the unexcavated kiva suite adjacent to the north, or other persons.

Abandonment

Probably abandoned when either Kiva Suite 1206 or the unexcavated kiva suite adjacent to the north were abandoned.

Postabandonment Process

After the final cultural deposit was made in the midden, the walls of the surrounding structures continued to collapse, and also additional sediment was deposited naturally.

Dating of Midden

This midden is contained within Structures 1204 and 1212, and was deposited sometime after A.D. 1265.
