Alicia Benally

Educator

Alicia Benally is of the Coyote Moiety from the Mountain Cahuilla of California. She continues to learn her tribal language and customs to pass on to future generations. She grew up learning from her elders from the surrounding reservations, participated in cultural events and in particular, bird dances.

Ali is currently an educator at Crow Canyon Archaeological Center Crow Canyon since 2023 and has a background in Anthropology, emphasis on Archaeology, from Utah State University. She has experience of working with tribal entities as well as a couple of nonprofit organizations. Her expertise lies in the Indigenous teachings of groups in Southern California. She has a passion for bridging Indigenous perspectives with archaeology to foster collaboration and provide a more inclusive history for all.

An educator and archaeologist, Ali continues to collaborate with Indigenous folks within the discipline, but thrives on being out in the community and sharing her culture and experiences.
