Lance Holly was a Crow Canyon intern during the summer of 2007 and returned the following summer to be a camp counselor for the high school field school program. He attended CU-Boulder and received a Masters degree in archaeology. What Lance found most interesting in archaeology work was the educational component, explaining the past and being a tour guide. Lance became a high school social studies teacher, working in the Denver area with under-resourced schools teaching history, geography, and government. After twelve years – both as a teacher and as a mentorship program manager with Big Brothers Big Sisters – Lance made another career shift and now works in the field of renewable energy. At NREL – the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, CO – Lance continues working with underserved populations by running Department of Energy-funded prize competitions that aim to get money and resources into the hands of communities and entrepreneurs doing groundbreaking work in renewable energy.
