Turquoise Mafia

Elvira Nowlin is a member of the Diné (Navajo) Nation. Her umbilical cord is buried in the sheep corral near her home in Coppermine, Arizona. Her clan is Bįįh bitoodnii (Deer Spring), born for the Táchii’nii clan. Taught by her grandmother at a very young age, fabricating and designing jewelry has been a significant part of her life. Her fondest memories were the days she sat under a juniper tree, making jewelry with her grandmother. In 2016, she created the Instagram page Turquoise Mafia to share the jewelry she made for her family and friends. In 2017, it became a business. Creating affordable jewelry for those who honor and value the beauty of her Diné legacy is the goal. She hopes to bring hozho, joy, to others, one beautiful treasure at a time.
