SOLD OUT The Salado Phenomenon

Flagstaff, AZ

Description

The Salado flourished from the thirteenth to the fifteenth centuries from the Mogollon Rim to the Tonto and Tucson Basins. Here, the Salado intermingled with the established cultures of the region-Hohokam and Mimbres—finding their own unique footing and societal ethos.

Learn how migration, trade networks, kivas, ballcourts, and pottery helped the Salado people transcend from a migrant culture to a formidable society in a dramatically changing era.

Highlights

  • Learn about community interactions between local and immigrant groups and how we can see ancestral traditions celebrated in the archaeological and ethnographic record.
  • Explore the iconic pottery traditions of the Salado Polychrome, famous for its multi-colored geometric designs on ceramics that were widely traded.
