Nonstructure 1.5-N, extramural surface
About this Nonstructure
General Location
Lower west side; base of talus slope near canyon bottom.
Specific Location
Near limits of excavation in Segment 1 (EU 32); below Nonstructures 1.1-N, 1.2-N, 1.3-N, and 1.4-N.
Selection Criteria
Part of Nonstructure 1-N testing; see Nonstructure 1-N and associated EU for description and explanation of testing strategy.
Use
This extramural surface was used for the construction of a possible wall (Feature 5).
Abandonment
No data.
Postabandonment Process
Not applicable.
Dating of Construction
No artifacts or tree-ring dates. Inferred to have been one of the earliest surfaces in this area because it rests on what is believed to be undisturbed native sediment and is covered by multiple cultural deposits, including a secondary refuse deposit (Nonstructure 1.4-N), a constructional fill deposit (Nonstructure 1.3-N), and an extramural surface (Nonstructure 1.2-N).
Dating of Remodeling
No evidence of remodeling.
Dating of Abandonment
Abandoned before the canyon bottom was abandoned--area continued to be used for a variety of purposes after this surface was no longer in use.
Dating of Midden
Not applicable.
Dating of Reuse
No evidence of reuse.
