Nonstructure 8-N, extramural surface
About this Nonstructure
General Location
North of butte.
Specific Location
East of Structure 302.
Selection Criteria
See associated excavation unit(s).
Use
The enclosing of the area with a wall, the constructed surface, and the ash-filled pit indicate this area was used for outdoor activities by the inhabitants of this kiva suite.
Abandonment
Thought to have abandoned in the same manner as Structure 302--as a result of an attack of the village in which many villagers were killed and that ended the occupation of the village.
Postabandonment Process
Refuse and wall fall deposited colluvially from upslope.
Dating of Construction
Assumed to be contemporaneous with Structure 302, which was tree-ring dated to A.D.1261.
Dating of Remodeling
No evidence of remodeling.
Dating of Abandonment
Pueblo III sherds were on the courtyard surface. Abandonment assumed to have been at the same time as many other structures in the village--sometime after A.D. 1274 (the latest tree-ring date from the site).
Dating of Reuse
No evidence of reuse.
